Internet text and photography
PhotographyGood photographs can make or break your site or intranet. But how can you source good photos? A business often has photos at its disposal but the material is not always suitable for use on the website, especially if a certain visual theme has been chosen for the imagery on the website.
This happens because
- the photos were not taken for this purpose;
- the photos were not taken by a professional photographer;
- the photos do not link into the design sufficiently;
- the photos are not unambiguous enough and certainly do not have a theme.
puntNL works closely with several photographers. We set up a briefing for the photographer and indicate, in detail, which photos are required for which part of the website. We are present on the day the photography takes place so we can offer suggestions.
In this way, photographic material is created that connects into the design of your site, where the desired atmosphere and appearance is achieved.
Internet text
Writing text: it seems so simple and yet experience has shown that this is often the most difficult part. Writing text is a particular science and should not be confused with writing text for paper. The Internet is a ‘zap-medium’ that demands specific language skills.
It is a special skill to retain the attention of the fleeting visitor and this is made more difficult due to the fact that most people simply don’t like reading from a screen.
A few rules of thumb:
- Start with a clear heading, make paragraphs obvious by using sub-headings.
- Use short sentences or alternate long sentences with short ones, avoiding subordinate clauses and parentheses.
- Speak directly to the reader:’ you want to know more about web text?’
- Keep the home page (start page) short and sweet so that the visitor becomes interested in the rest of the site.
- Try to avoid too many vertical scrolls, horizontal scrolling is always a sin.
- Ensure the hyperlinks are clear: don’t use ‘click here!’ but: ‘Information about text!’
- Don’t make any language or spelling errors and update the text regularly.
